The director of the previous two films, Paul King, decided not to direct this installment
Narrative
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved aunt Lucy, who is now residing at the home for retired bears. With the Brown family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery sends them on an unexpected journey. However, he pitched the idea for this third film and was brought on board as an executive producer.
Followed by Paddington (2014)
I love Paddington 1 and 2. I always knew that with a different director, a different setting, a different storyline, etc., the third film in the franchise would be unique. This film had three problems for me.
The first is a lackluster storyline
I failed to connect with the film, and a poor script was the reason for that. The charm of the franchise, which was still noticeable and used in the first two, is irrelevant. And because of the wholesome feeling you don’t get, the lack of charm, it completely kills the movie.
The second movie was the best, from Hugh Grant’s great acting, to the good foreshadowing and character development, this movie is nowhere near those levels
The third problem is the lack of character development, the way the characters were developed in the first and second movies is brilliant and exceptional, and while it’s hard to do that with this movie, it was mediocre nonetheless. Sally Hawkins is not in this movie, and she is a big loss, while Emily Mortimer does well with the role with what she has, she is greatly missed, and could have done this movie better. This movie has some great moments, from the iconic look to the plot twist, I would say it has its good moments, I am picking out some bad bits from this movie, nonetheless, it is decent.
A 79/10 for me
If you follow the franchise and have seen the first two, it is different and unique, but good to watch. There are some very beautiful sequences that will take your breath away.
