Essex and Wales collide when Gavin and Stacey fall in love, bringing their friends, family and baggage with them. With the exception of the scenes shot in London in the first episode, the entire series was filmed in Wales, including the storylines. Isle of Man. The house that was used as the Shipmans’ (Gavin’s family) house is in Dinas Powys, a village 1 mile north-west of Barry, where the Wests (Stacey’s family) live. In series three, Bryn and Gavin’s car number plates are completely different to previous series. Gavin’s blue Saxo has been changed from a T-reg (1999 model year) to an X-reg (2000 model year). Bryn’s green Picasso has been changed from a CV02 (MY 2002, registered in Cardiff) to an HV54 (MY 2004, registered in Portsmouth). These are obviously different cars. Gavin and Stacey: Deleted Scenes (2007). Performed by Stephen FretwellPerformed by Stephen Fretwell. This was a wonderful, short, minimal effort that took two or three days. It’s nothing earth-shattering, it doesn’t move mountains or shift paradigms. It’s more of a character study of two (extended) families who come together after one couple has an affair and gets married, one from Wales and the other from England. It’s a light, funny and insightful watch. I wish there were more series like this around, where every character is kind, loving, communicative, thoughtful about their own lives and expresses love for others despite their flaws. It’s not new, but it’s not fictional either. It’s a heartfelt slice of life and it’s wonderful. This isn’t the typical hilarious comedy you often find in British comedies. It’s more about the characters. Highly recommended.
