Narrative

Spanning four turbulent decades during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, the real-life Dolours Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea.

It’s hard to see such a quality series about this period

In that film, Rea plays Fergus, a very reluctant and ambiguous member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA).

The series clearly tries to strike a balance when looking at this period

It’s obvious that the focus is ultimately on the missing, particularly Jean McConville and several former IRA volunteers, but it does a good job of revealing the motivations and circumstances of those who joined the IRA.

Overall, it’s a sometimes exhilarating but also thought-provoking watch, I definitely felt it was worth taking a day to look at!

The characters on all sides are well-developed and played, especially Dolours Price and Brendan Hughes, and the quirky sense of humor is very welcome and appropriate.
